Module 8 of 21 Shape the data

Processing Rules

Fix data on arrival

4 sections about 34 min

  1. 01 What Are Processing Rules Why anything sits between collection and reporting at all. What a processing rule is, where it runs in the pipeline, and the guardrails to understand first.
  2. 02 Conditions and Actions The anatomy of a processing rule. Conditions decide when it acts, actions decide what happens, and order is logic rather than layout.
  3. 03 Use Cases and Examples Five worked processing rules, built one at a time, including one that shows the moment a processing rule is the wrong tool for the job.
  4. 04 Limitations and Best Practices Processing rules are permanent, immediate, and not retroactive. The limits are the shape of the tool, the mistakes they invite, and when Launch is better.

About this module

Processing rules reshape a hit after it arrives and before it is stored. What they can do, what they cannot undo, and when Launch is the better tool.

Processing rules run the moment data arrives, before any of it is stored. They are how you correct a value, fill a gap, or standardize something inconsistent without waiting for a developer release.

This module covers what they can and cannot do, how conditions and actions fit together, and five worked examples built one at a time. The last section is the one that matters. Processing rules are immediate, permanent and not retroactive: a rule written today does nothing for yesterday's data, and a rule that overwrites a value destroys the original.
